The Woods: Hard Rock Maple

Hard rock.  Sounds good already.  Maple is one of the hardest domestic woods available.  It’s very lightly colored ranging from near white to golden cream.  It’s unique to the other hardwoods in that the wood used from the tree is the sapwood (closer to the bark) rather than the heartwood (the middle of the tree.)  The result is usually a very straight grained wood…but also found highly figured (color patterns such as birds-eye and flames.)

Though it’s quite popular in guitars, maple isn’t used very often in synths, perhaps because the color contrast with the typical black / dark front panel.  Regardless, maple is a very durable and attractive wood that can match certain synths perfectly.
